I was playing with the physicality of line on the surface of the painting and how lines can speak to one another from one surface to another. It doesn't make any sense at first but it is amazing how much of a conversation one can have in his/her head over a simple line. What is the difference between something that makes sense and something that doesn't make sense in the value that is given to it as something that is simply exisiting?

Different shades of grey
I was walking my eskie Meeko on the beach today and I was mesmerised by the different shades of grey that made up the city. Only the continuous rain could have brought my attention to the infinity of greyness in Vancouver. What is it about the rain that makes one miss the sun and the sun making one miss the rain? Where is the contentment? The colours of the rain make a beautiful painting, very sophisticated fashion statement, a romantic day with baked goods and hot chocolate but to live it for a long time makes a miserable life. Is it because it's wet or is it because it's grey? Or is it the loss of appreciation?

Advanced Abstract Painting in Acrylics & Mixed Media- Concept to Completion With Rojia Dadashzadeh and Deb Chaney and NEW!!Each participant will experience working on three wood panels as we take you on a creative journey sharing our art making process with you from start to finish.
Students will be encouraged to explore language, colour, composition, nurture emotional richness, spontaneity and experimentation and to develop conceptual ideas.
A slide show presentation of modern art will be given with discussion and emphasis on composition, balance, colour, form, symbolism,the representation of motion ,and the superimposition of images in the organization of space in abstract paintings.
Both one-on-one and group critiques are aimed at enhancing individual growth.
Media will include heavy body acrylics, mixing and pouring mediums, moulding pastes and gels, and professional grade MSA or Polymer Varnish. Various materials and mediums, for example, coloured pencil, crayon, and inks will be introduced and used to experiment with different techniques during the process.
The workshop will include plenty of demonstrations and time for students to work.
Students will get to:
•Experience taking an idea from concept to completion with our support and guidance
•Experiment with new paint colours and mediums provided in the workshop by our sponsors
•Learn how to prepare wood panels for painting
•Learn how to apply paint to panel
•Learn the fundamental of colour mixing and create their own colour mixing tables
•Create depth and texture by via scratching and electrical sanding techniques
•Experience group discussion on creative process and the journey of making abstract art
•Varnish the result painting with professional quality archival products
•Learn tricks & tips on wiring the back of their paintings for hanging
Previous experience painting in acrylics strongly recommended.

With an emphasis on experimentation and creative process, this informative abstract painting class teaches students the fundamentals of abstract painting. Building on this foundation, each class will progressively introduce new techniques such as glazing, layering, removal, staining, lifting and layering. This combination of elements supports artists to further develop their skill-sets in line, and depth . We will be using liquid and heavy body acrylics, as well as acrylic mediums, gels, and collage elements to create texture.
Beginners and experienced artist are welcome.
